On February 20, Akaki Tsereteli State University hosted the international masterclass in particle physics organized by CERN (The European Organization for Nuclear Research, Geneva, Switzerland).
Masterclass aims to popularize physics in 15-20 year olds.
The international masterclass gave ATSU students and students selected from schools of Kutaisi opportunity to discover the world of quarks and leptons based on the data obtained from CERN experiments. The participants also met with scientists who conduct research in particle physics and get acquainted with young people from different countries.
As a result of several lectures and practical work, the participants were able to find out more about particles and processes between them. The topic of the masterclass was particle physics, experiments and detectors in CERN. After the theoretical course, the masterclass participants processed data from the experiment and discovered various particles.
The masterclass is a very popular event in which the leading universities from around the world are involved.
Partners of the masterclass on February 20 are: Trieste University (Italy), Zagreb University (Croatia), Pavia Univrsity (Italy), Pozega university, (Croatia).
At the end of the masterclass, a video conference was held to meet CERN experts.
There was the discussion to examine and compare the results of participants of the above mentioned universities. The masterclass participants were awarded with English language certificates.
